Q & A

This is a list of common questions posted on "The Knot" associated with hiring a wedding photographer. .To save you time and concerns I have answered each one for you.

Q. What's the photographer's primary style -- traditional, candid, or posed? (Go for someone whose forte is your favorite style.)

A. I am experienced in all styles; however, I enjoy natural moments & pure emotion! Wonderful things can happen in between posed shots- I focus on real emotion. I put my emphasis on classical portraiture while in school because I really enjoy creating beautiful romantic portraits. I try to find a balance between the candid moments & sheer beauty.

Q. What's the photographer's philosophy about shooting weddings?. (This question will give you an idea of the shutterbug's expertise and passion for his work.)

A. I absolutely love, love, love photography! I see eveything through my lens &.I approach all of my shoots the same way:. I am there to capture the shots I have been hired to do, as well as have a great time doing it. .I always try and find something new and creative on every shoot and I am always open to suggestions.

Q.. Does the photographer shoot in color, black and white, or both?

A.. I don't classify myself as one type of photographer or another. .I enjoy shooting in both color and black & white.. I will shoot with your preference in mind. .I am usually asked to shoot both, and it's no problem. .However, I do tell everyone that I can't promise particular shots in a certain film stock.. I try to give a nice variety.

Q. .How independent is the photographer?. Does she prefer that you describe exactly what you want, or would she rather have free rein to capture the festivities on film?. (This point determines how you two will work together.)

A. .I like to have guidelines; therefore I know what you are looking for in particular. .But I do like to have artistic freedom so you have something uniquely different. .Anyone can snap a picture. .It is my job to create an image and capture memories that will live forever.

Q. .Will the photographer you talk with be the one who actually takes your wedding pictures? (This is crucial! Each photographer's style is unique.)

A. Yes. .All of the work you see on this website is my personal work down to the site creation & design. I personally compile all of my albums as well- so I can safely say I offer something truly unique & personal.

Q.. How many weddings will the photographer shoot on your wedding weekend (or even on your wedding day)?

A. .I do not shoot more than one wedding per day.. I also limit myself to 35 weddings a year. This way I offer my brides a very personal service and am available to chat whenever they have a concern.

Q.. Is the photographer open to a list of must-take photos (pictures you definitely want shot)?

A.. Yes, of course. .I encourage a list of things you want included in your wedding album. .I also encourage any creative ideas you may have while we are shooting. .It might just turn out to be the shot of the day! .Again, I do ask that you give me some creative freedom.. That is essentially why you are hiring me and I can not properly create with a rigid schedule.

Q. .What kinds of cameras does the photographer use? .(This will acquaint you with the photographer's experience and knowledge.)

A. .I currently use four different cameras on every wedding assignment.. I carry two different size medium format cameras: Mamiya 645 M100S and Mamiya RB-67 Pro S (6x7).. These cameras have interchangeable parts so there is no need to worry about equipment failure. .For candid shots, I carry an old school Minolta x-370 and a Nikon D-70.

All of my cameras have manual settings which I use almost exclusively. This ensures that I mantain control over every image I am creating.

Q.. What kind of lighting and other equipment (such as tripods) does the photographer use? Does the photographer bring backup equipment in case of emergency?

A.. .I have several flash units that can be slaved to the main camera if needed. As for backup equipment, I carry everything with me. .If a piece of equipment malfunctions, I always have something with which to replace it. I personally test everything the day before a shoot.

Q. .Does the photographer develop his own film?

A. .I no longer develop my own black & white film.. It it so time consuming that I now entrust a professional lab to handle all of my processing. .I am still shooting mostly film- so everything is processed and then scanned for online proofing.
